BreastCancer.org
We love, and have too often lost, many people to breast cancer, including the wife of an old friend who courageously battled not one, but four, bouts of breast cancer, only to finally succumb to pancreatic cancer. I never met her, but judging from the many beautiful stories I've heard about her and her life, the strength, courage and determination she maintained during her years of often-disabling treatments and surgeries, and her will to keep living her life as best she could, while inspiring others even as she was dying. On behalf of those who have suffered or who are now or have been fighting for their lives, I urge you to visit breastcancer.org to learn how you can help fight for a cure, to learn the symptoms for early detection and prompt treatment, to read the courageous and inspiring stories of survivors, and much more. And I urge all women to perform monthly self breast exams in addition to regular mammograms as directed by your physician, as well as men checking their prostate - not just for yourself, but also for those who love you and want you around as long as possible!

Then take advantage of the many discounts on hardware and software (lots and lots of them photography-related) offered by Academic Superstore, some up to 85% off of retail pricing. I've personally saved hundreds of dollars, the customer service is excellent, and they provide quick shipping and status updates. I've had absolutely no problems and have been dealing with this company for many years.
Lowepro Camera Bags
There are so many wonderful choices of camera bags available to us. My favorites are by Lowepro, because they are very lightweight (which helps when we start adding weight from our cameras, lenses, speedlights, filters, batteries and everything else we carry in them, plus the are very versatile and can expand as my needs expand. Other bags I use for different occasions are ThinkTank's Rotation 360, and a Pelican travel backpack with wheels and a telescoping handle. Both carry my 17" MacBook Pro easily, when I need to travel or shoot with it. But on most occasions I use one of my many Lowepro's.
Outdoor Photographer
I subscribe to many photography magazines. This is one of my faves. Besides the wealth of information and the stunning images and story contributions by renowned photographers, I am proud to have met many of those photographers, and the list of those I'm honored to have met, from all over the country, seems to grow each year. When I grow up, I want to be just like some of these wonderful people, and maybe 1/2 as talented. If you don't already read this magazine and want to know more about outdoor photography (and really, any type of photography), this is a worthy and inexpensive investment, and a fun magazine to read.

Thom Hogan: Nikon & Much More Thom covers MUCH more than just Nikon, including Macs, backpacking, programming, other camera brands, reviews; the list goes on! From Thom's site: "Thom Hogan's resume reads like a random walk, albeit an interesting one. Author of over two dozen books that combined have sold over a million copies worldwide, Thom also had a career at the forefront of a number of high tech startups. Thom's most recent 'real job' (as his dad would call it) was a three-year stint as Executive Editor of BACKPACKER magazine. While he loves what he's doing and continues to crank out new Nikon books and materials, Thom says he'd consider another real job if it involved another 'big thing.'"
If you're a Nikon shooter, or are considering getting a Nikon camera, lens or other gear, or if you want to know almost anything Nikon, you won't want to miss Thom's comprehensive site. But wait! There's more!
Wacom Tablets & Displays I currently use two of their products: the 2nd gen. 21" Cintiq 21UX as my side-by-side monitor tablet for digital post-processing with my iMac 24" (thus avoiding having to work with the high-gloss screen of the iMac when editing images), and the Intuous 3 tablet with my MacBook Pro when traveling, along with various graphics pens and nibs. These tablets are without doubt my best time-savers during post-processing and graphics design, plus they make it fun!
From Wacom's website: "Inspired by natural human abilities to create, our patented pen and touch input technology allows freedom of expression, inspired creativity, and drastic improvements in productivity, control and comfort. From product development and graphic design to the media and entertainment sectors, Wacom facilitates the work of individuals and workgroups with truly natural ways to work with digital content."
